What does Fosters in Need Organization do?

    Our goal at the Fosters in Need Organization is to prepare teenage fosters for independent living after the foster care system, maintain partnerships with various colleges, employers and organizations who are dedicated to ensuring the success of fosters as they enter into adulthood, and provide foster children with a feeling of love and security.

How we do it.

     The Fosters in Need Organization provides basic life skills education to youth aging out of the foster care system through a series of classroom curriculum.  The curriculum lessons include skills such as goal setting, organizational skills, scheduling, applying for jobs, job interview skills, financial responsibilities, budgeting, and leadership skills.

     We cultivate and maintains partnerships with various trade schools, college and universities, employers, and housing organizations.  These partnerships are used to help those who are aging out of the foster care system have a smooth transition into independent living. Partners of the Fosters in Need Organization give our curriculum participants the opportunity to apply these skills in real life situations. 

Why we do It?

   Children are placed into the foster care system at no fault of their own.  The process of being taken away from their families and familiar surroundings can be a traumatic experience.  Many foster children are frequently moved from home to home, never experiencing a stable living situation.  These experiences and conditions can lead to mental and emotional distress which, can eventually turn into mental or emotional scars they carry their entire adult lives.  Over 20,000 children age out of the foster care system across the United States each year.  Most of these children leave the foster care system without the basic life skills necessary to live independently.  The lack of these basic skills and support from a stable family place these children on a path to adversity.  Many of these children are immediately forced into homelessness, and other situations that make achieving a successful adult life difficult.  The Fosters in Need Organization feels every child aging out of foster care should be provided with opportunities that will increase their chance for success.
